COVE & TIDE POOLS
At our eco resort, the Cove, a beach enclave near the resort pool, is both a marine and geological masterpiece! Carved by nature, the Cove is an ideal place for guests to watch for dolphins at play, sculpt a sand castle or simply soak in the sun.
Of all eco resorts in Southern California, Terranea's coastline is the most interesting of all. It provides a rocky haven for many marine animals that thrive in it. Visit our tide pools and take a curious glimpse into the ocean habitat, including algae "seaweeds" and a plethora of marine invertebrates such as sea slugs, anemones, sea stars and shellfish.
At our eco resort in Palos Verdes, walk the Discovery Trail and learn about all the indigenous plants and wildlife through naturalist-guided tours or our interpretive signage.
Signs throughout six interpretive areas guide you through our Discovery Trail giving you a glimpse of the Ages of Geological Splendor: the majestic silhouette of Catalina Island, California's rare coastal native plants and wildlife and the Pacific Ocean realm.
- Lady of the Light - Find out who is the ghostly presence seen at Point Vicente Lighthouse
- It's So Diatomaceous - Capture the hidden beauty of microfossils
- Live Forever - Learn the secret of Terranea's 14 acres of native plants
- Explore the Ocean Floor - Dive into the art of tide pooling
- Search for the Spout - Enjoy a "whale" of a discovery, and possibly witness the magnificent California gray whale
- One and the Same - Your feet are planted on an ancient island
In addition to the "teachable moments" provided by these interpretive signs, are three telescopes for guests to enjoy the views of nature.

Everything about our eco resort in Palos Verdes is conscious of the environment - even the mature trees, which were here before Terranea appeared, have been preserved and incorporated seamlessly into the landscape.
From its premium location on the southwestern tip of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Terranea and the surrounding area provide an endless array of awe-inspiring vistas. Hundreds of hiking trails lead to secluded vantage points within unspoiled nature preserves. And from just about any point on the Peninsula, you can marvel at views of Catalina Island and the Channel Islands, making you feel far removed from the outside world.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy was founded in 1988 by a group of foresighted residents to preserve open space on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The Conservancy works cooperatively with cities, property owners and environmental groups to locate funds for purchasing land, provide tax benefits for land donations, restore habitats and promote the conservation of natural open space in the Palos Verdes Peninsula. With the conservancy's help, future generations will be able to enjoy this precious coastline in the purest state possible.
A portion of the proceeds from the Discovery Trail telescopes supports the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. For more information, please visit www.pvplc.org.
